Expiration date of fire protective clothing

2025-01-09

Fire protective clothing is usually valid for 5 years. This regulation is based on a combination of factors such as material properties, use environment and frequency. However, this does not mean that fireproof protective clothing must be scrapped after 5 years of use, and the actual validity period can be appropriately extended or shortened according to the actual situation and frequency of use. For example, in frequent use or harsh environments, fireproof protective clothing may need to be replaced more frequently; Conversely, its lifespan may be extended with less use or good storage.

Factors that affect the validity of fire protective clothing

Material: Fireproof protective clothing is made of special materials, which have good flame retardant, heat insulation, waterproof and breathable properties. Different materials have different performance stability, so their service life will also vary.

Design: Fireproof protective clothing is usually composed of multiple layers of fabric, including flame retardant outer layer, waterproof and breathable layer, thermal insulation layer and comfort layer, etc. The service life of these levels varies, for example, the life of the high-temperature protection layer may be as low as 1 year, while the service life of the flame retardant insulation and the water and moisture permeable layer can be 2 years and 3 years, respectively.

Frequency of use: Frequently used garments wear and age more quickly and therefore need to be replaced more frequently; Conversely, less used garments may have a longer lifespan3.

Environment: Protective clothing used in harsh environments (such as high temperature, high humidity, corrosive gases, etc.) will be damaged more quickly, so it will require a shorter replacement cycle.

Storage conditions and maintenance recommendations

In order to prolong the life of the fireproof protective clothing, it is recommended to store it in a clean, dry and well-ventilated environment with a room temperature of 5°C to 35°C and a relative humidity of 40% to 80%, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. It should be kept clean and dry when stored to avoid the adhesion of pollutants such as dust and oil stains. After use, it should be cleaned and maintained, and avoid washing in a washing machine or hard brush to avoid damage to the material. In addition, regular inspection and maintenance are also necessary, including checking for damage, stickiness, adhesion, etc., and conducting air tightness testing.
